Published Apr 19, 2013Last year, acclaimed filmmaker Jim Jarmusch indulged his penchant for music with two albums with lute player Jozef van Wissem. This year, the trend will continue thanks to Jarmusch's band SQÜRL, which features Shane Stoneback (who has recorded bands like Vampire Weekend, Fucked Up and Sleigh Bells) and Carter Logan. This is a rechristened version of their prior project Bad Rabbit.
The trio will release an EP on May 21 through ATP Recordings. An official announcement neglects to mention the mini-platter's title, but online listings refer to it as EP #1. It will be pressed in an edition of 1,000 12-inch picture discs, which are hand-numbered and include an art postcard.
The press release describes the project's music like this: "SQÜRL are an enthusiastically marginal rock band from New York City who like big drums & broken guitars, cassette recorders, loops, feedback, sad country songs, molten stoner core, chopped & screwed hip-hop, and imaginary movie scores."

The band united in 2009 after Jarmusch and Logan recruited Stoneback to help them record music for Jarmusch's film The Limits of Control. These initial songs were released as Bad Rabbit.
The newly named band reportedly have a series of EPs ready to go, which were laid down over three years at Brooklyn's Treefort Recording, so stay tuned for updates.
