Published Jan 17, 2011While old-school hip-hop fans are already salivating over news that the Beastie Boys' album Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2 will be dropping in 2011, the announcement of a short film revamping the outfit's early video for "Fight for Your Right" is bound to stoke retro-minded fans even further.
Premiering this week at the Sundance Film Festival, the short Fight for Your Right Revisited is a promotional clip for the group's new track "Make Some Noise," but it also pays heed to the Beasties' party rap past. Not much has been revealed as far as the plot goes, but we can probably expect the original vid's pie fight and Spanish fly-guzzling moments to factor in there somewhere.
As Consequence of Sound points out, while the trio of MCA, Ad-Rock and Mike D will be featured in the clip, they will not be reprising their original roles. According to IMDB, the rappers have been replaced by Hollywood hotshots. MCA will be played by Danny McBride and John C. Reilly, Mike D by Seth Rogen and Jack Black, and Ad-Rock will be taken on by Elijah Wood and Will Ferrell. The rappers themselves will portray cops.
If that wasn't enough talent, IMDB also lists the following participants: Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, Orlando Bloom, Kirsten Dunst, David Cross, Will Arnett, Amy Poehler, Jason Schwartzman, Adam Scott, Rainn Wilson, Steve Buscemi, Chloë Sevigny, Alicia Silverstone, Martin Starr, Ted Danson, Rashida Jones, and R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills. We can't wait to see who gets cast as the fat metalhead that gets repeatedly pied mid-clip.
In other Beastie Boys news, check out the group's new line of watches. Prefix points to timepiece company Nixon releasing some wrist-wear that feature Mike D, dressed up like a sleazy boating enthusiast on the watch face. Despite the goofy nature of the line, at $85 a pop, they seem a lot more level-headed than this diamond-encrusted monstrosity.
