Big Dada Recordings Announces Relaunch
It will now be "a label run by Black, POC & Minority Ethnic Ninja Tune staff members for Black, POC & Minority Ethnic artists"
"Working to amplify Black and racialised artists voices, Big Dada looks to shift the narrative around this music, bypassing stereotypes to allow and encourage freedom to express oneself for who they are and want to be," the Ninja Tune-distributed label wrote, outlining its mission statement in a press release.
"Big Dada has a long history and heritage which will be built upon whilst deepening its cultural identity by supporting & offering resources to a new generation of artists."
Big Dada's revamped website now includes a resource section, with industry advice ranging from general music legal advice, mental health resources for Black and POC artists and more. A forthcoming editorial section promises "think-pieces and long reads exploring various music scenes and movements, rewiring the label as a platform for minority communities."
Big Dada Recordings was founded in 1997 by Will Ashon, who left the label in 2014. The label's catalogue includes releases from Roots Manuva, King Geedorah, Wiley, Cadence Weapon, Tre Mission, Kae Tempest, Busdriver and more.
Two Big Dada releases have captured the UK's Mercury Prize: Speech Debelle's Speech Therapy in 2009 and Young Fathers' Dead in 2014.
