John Mellencamp/Stephen King Musical Ropes In Elvis Costello, Neko Case, Kris Kristofferson
Published Dec 28, 2009Though his Spectacle TV show is proof enough that he'll collaborate with anyone, Elvis Costello has taken it a step further with his latest project. According to a report from the Fire Wire [via TwentyFourBit], Costello will join Neko Case, Kris Kristofferson, Sheryl Crow and Rosanne Cash in a musical written by John Mellencamp and Stephen King.
The play is called Ghost Brothers of Darkland County. And while little is known about its plot at this point, it's said to be about "domestic turmoil" with Costello playing a satanic character named the Shape.
If you think the casting we listed in the first paragraph is weird enough, there's more. Boxing legend Joe Frazier and Stephen King himself will both play minor roles in the drama. Also, T-Bone Burnett is set to produce the soundtrack, with the whole thing being narrated by Glenn Morshower, of 24 and Friday Night Lights fame.
When the musical opens this September in Atlanta, GA, a three-disc album and companion book will also be released.
